Journal #5: The Great Appearance of Katy Perry

http://www.xylografipress.com/katy-perry-gives-barack-obama-her-fashion-vote/32/

My eyes were caught with by an interesting topic of politics near the upcoming presidential election. In the article, “That Barack Obama/Katy Perry mashup you've been dreaming about will finally happen this Saturday,” posted on the AV Club website November 1st, states that Katy Perry was evidently appearing and singing at Barack Obama’s campaign stop in Wisconsin on November 3rd. With Mitt Romney, The Oak Ridge Boys were possibly performing. The interesting concept for me is why these acts are needed.

Mostly everybody can agree that these are good forms of entertainment. Yet, elections of any form are supposed to be about the issues. With performers like Katy Perry and The Oak Ridge Boys, there may be entertainment, but that takes away from getting the possible presidents to spread their message to the public. We want to know the true issues and what they plan to resolve. Wouldn't we rather our decisions be based off the facts, rather than the pop star that appears before the president? Displayed in the picture above, Katy Perry supports Barack Obama in even her fashion choices. People look to their pop figures for answers. This kind of a decision should base on your opinions and beliefs, not of a person you idolize.

Revised Journal #2: The Soccer Controversy

I choose the article “Sunset for the Golden Generation,” by Brian Phillips. Nobody can say that the idea of racist comments are acceptable or are admissible in any case. In this certain situation, the English soccer team has been put in the shames of a controversial debate. Their captain, John Terry, made some derogatory comments towards a biracial opponent, Anton Ferdinand. This was taken into legal hands. Terry was brought to the court and found not guilty. There was interpretation from multiple lip readers of the taped encounter. In its place, came a colossal fine and four game suspensions.

With this controversial topic, brought about many different aspects that affects the game of soccer. Fans are now faced with major news stories and views. This affects the impression of The Golden Generation. The Golden Generation, reckoning some of the most prestigious soccer players, has been put in shame for this kind of controversy. There are various ideas that can be brought from this issue. The idea that people having unreasonably high expectations, allowing for pressure and mistakes to be made. Soccer is a heated game with heated players trying to play a game that is so important to their country. Even so, people can come to agree that words spoken such as he did should not be voiced to anyone.

Revised Journal #4:Oh! Did you say a great movie? The Dark Knight!

http://batman.wikia.com/wiki/The_Joker_(Heath_Ledger
The first movie that comes to my mind for my favorite movie is “The Dark Knight.” It is an extremely moving movie. Many people see this movie as just an action-packed thriller, yet, it has so many underlying concepts that make it such a greater movie. Specifically, the character of The Joker is what draws me into the movie. During my senior year of high school, I had to develop a critical analysis paper on the movie. That is when I realized how provoking the character was and the acting ability needed for such a role. Heath Ledger, played the role of The Joker, had such a consuming role which led him to change as a person completely and led to his death from drug overdose.

A couple months after the production of The Dark Knight, Ledger was experiencing complete changes in thought and his normal way of life. After immersing himself into the character, he was forced to encompass the little mannerisms that are hard to portray. That is what makes acting so difficult. Essentially, he had to become the character of The Joker (depressed, psychopathic mass murderer). Though the movie had great effects, stunts, and camerawork, the most influential part of the movie is the great acting, allowing for moral codes and way of life to be exposed. How The Joker thought of the world and how others acted due to his actions, let people question so many concepts of the movie. I like a variety of genres of movies so picking one is kind of difficult. I would say the cultural aspect, specifically the assumptions, appeal to me the most. A movie is unbelievable if it makes a person change their own assumptions or ways of thinking.
