The article I picked to discuss about "NFL Run & Shootaround: Cutler's Way," by Grantland Staff.
With such an enormous sport of Football, many aspects of the sport are looked at closely. Single behaviors by specific players can be frowned upon as they are role models for children. The topic of Jay Cutler’s behavior during one part of the game last Sunday took the eye of the crowd. After flinging the ball at an opposing player, the yellow flag flew giving him a penalty for unsportsman like conduct. It went on to talk about the tragic game between the New York Jets and the New England Patriots. After scoring 2 touchdowns in less than a minute, there is much controversy on coaching and staff. It is just interesting how many little different aspects are viewed.  They view Cutler’s behavior as an immoral thing to do, yet, encourage him for his good play and performance. The New York Jets have been successful the last couple of years and now with such bad performance the coaches under fire. This interests me because I love to watch football but there are some aspects I do dislike. How it consumes a lot of people and people can even say it is some sort of a religion concerns me.

Brief Screening Report

http://briwiz.blogspot.com/2010/12/wizzies-top-10-scenes-of-2010.html
In this evaluation essay, we are assigned to pick a concept that intrigues a person to dig deeper into the meaning. It is what is most important to a person that gets them to desire to learn more. In The Social Network, Mark Zuckerberg, a man striving to “make it big” in the world, attends one of the most elite schools in the country, Harvard. Two scenes draw my attention for this paper.

The first scene, occurring at the beginning and ending at 5 minutes and 33 seconds, builds my idea for a      topic on my evaluative essay. The scene starts with Mark Zuckerberg and his girlfriend, Erica Albright, talking and eventually dramatically breaking up. He is obsessed with the idea of being part of an elite final club. He insults his own girlfriend with the idea of BYU being an “easy” school. The break-up causes Zuckerberg to go running to his dorm and start a rant on the internet about his rotten ex-girlfriend. This is what starts up the internet sensation at school, Fashmash. Did this rejection cause his action? The producers could have set this scene in the purpose of showing Zuckerberg’s inability to connect with society, especially women. The use of the internet may be his way of coping.

Another interesting topic for me was the idea that the actual Mark Zuckerberg does possess the same characteristics depicted in the movie. In real life, Zuckerberg is an athletic, funny computer genius that did not express the “normal” nerd qualities presented in the movie. Perhaps, the producers were trying to connect the idea of the classic idea of a nerd to the movie. This may be more relatable to people other than a billionaire genius.

Reading Assignment: Movie Concepts

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1285016/

“Realism and Anti-Realism” Reading Response:

In this writing, the writers discuss the different concepts of realism and anti-realism. My movie choice, The Social Network, depicts the college life of one Harvard student, Mark Zuckerberg, who created the internet sensation, Facebook. This realism represents the truth or reality the situation. I decided looking up the real Mark Zuckerberg was a suitable way to tell the reality of the movie. The producers did depict his character differently. The idea of Mark Zuckerberg being a socially awkward, sarcastic nerd is not fully true. Realism refers to the several significant and related ideas that movies usually portray. The producers may have been trying to depict the character in this fashion to display the “normal” socially awkward nerd. This may be more relatable to people. Not a very intellectual, athletic, and funny computer genius that he truly is. Verisimilitude, trying to convince an appearance of truth, is shown through this movie. They try to depict the character as how many people see it and how things could be just like that in real life.

“Looking at Movies: Genre: The Western” Reading Response:

In the film, The Social Network, there is the depiction of daily struggles of one man’s fight to internet fame. This movie can be described as a drama. Drama films show emotional and realistic settings that develop the realistic characters. Realistic characters are used to allow people to relate to the film. In particular, drama films are used to display real life issues and some of the common human struggles faced in society. The character type of Mark Zuckerberg allows people to see the realistic and believable form of an awkward sarcastic nerd trying to show the world what he is made of an to hid his past experiences. This is a common theme portrayed by “nerds” in movies.

Katy Perry Appearance

Presidential Debates

In the article, “That Barack Obama/Katy Perry mashup you've been dreaming about will finally happen this Saturday,” posted on the AV Club website November 1st, states that Katy Perry was evidently appearing and singing at Barack Obama’s campaign stop in Wisconsin on November 3rd. With Mitt Romney, The Oak Ridge Boys were possibly performing. The interesting concept of this topic for me is why these acts are needed.

Indeed, they are good forms of entertainment. Yet, elections of any form are supposed to be about the issues. With performers like Katy Perry and The Oak Ridge Boys, there may be entertainment, but that takes away from getting the possible presidents to spread their message to the public. We want to know the true issues and what they plan to resolve. Wouldn't we rather our decisions be based off the facts, rather than the pop star that appears before the president? Displayed in the picture above, Katy Perry supports Barack Obama in even her fashion choices. People look to their pop figures for answers. This kind of a decision should base on your opinions and beliefs, not ones of a person you idolize.
